OUR COMPANY
Island Coffees is a small, family run business created in 2011 by Jonathan and Paula Surtees. Our coffee farm is located on the lands surrounding the famous Strawberry Hill Hotel, which have historically always been used for growing coffee. Unfortunately the majority of the coffee plants were destroyed during the devastating hurricane Gilbert in 1988.
Island Coffees Ltd. is approved by the Coffee Industry Board (CIB) of Jamaica and awarded a Special Dealers License and Trademark Agreement for the selling of 100% Blue Mountain Coffee and any other Coffee grown in Jamaica. Since 2011, the company has grown and expanded, moving from supplying supermarkets and hotels Islandwide to opening its own Island Coffees Cafes, one in Island Village Plaza, Ocho Rios, on the north coast of Jamaica, one in Devon House, Kingston and another on the Waterfront in Kingston, Jamaica. OUR COFFEES
Our flagship brand, "Strawberry Hill Coffee", is a Dark City Roast favouring those who love a strong burst of flavours . In order to ensure the sustainability of the roast profile, and guarantee the taste and aroma that our customers have come to know and love, we supply only the roasted beans and ground. The beans are shiny with caffeol that ensures a smooth cup – not bitter, and with a lessened after-taste than a medium roast. Our packaging is designed to stand out with white burlap with a black label - different and attractive.
Now more than ever it is critical that the Logo indicated at the top of this page or the wording "Jamaican Blue Mountain " is on the packaging of the coffee that you buy.
True to its name, the Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee is grown in the Blue Mountain region of Jamaica, in between Kingston mostly in the south and Port Maria in the north. Rising to 7,500 ft, the Blue Mountain Range is the highest point in the Caribbean, however the highest coffee growing regions range between 3000 ft – 5200 ft. This broad band consists of a cold, damp and dark, fertile soil and good drainage, providing ideal conditions for growing coffee. A few companies have produced Blue Mountain coffee with the word Blend in it - the price is 1/2 of the 100% Blue Mountain coffee and is very appealing to the consumer - however you will not be drinking pure Blue Mountain Coffee. |
