Espresso
The Espresso method is another excellent method to make a cup of coffee. It was mainly used in Cafes due to the high cost of the equipment needed to make the coffee. However nowadays you can get home machines that will make very good Espressos.
The Espresso brewing method has been around since the very early 20th century and was first patented by Luigi Bezzera of Milan, Italy, in 1901. Some of the most popular espresso drinks made using this brewing method are Latte, Mocha, Cappuccino, Macchiato and Espresso con Panna. Essentially water is pumped under high pressure through finely ground coffee which is tamped or pressed. The effect is concentrated coffee with a thick crema (like "head" on a beer) and a very strong taste. A steamer usually attached to the machine is used to "froth" and heat up milk to create specialty drinks. |
